TESTIMONY

“Destiny is simply having the vision to realize your dreams and the perseverance to keep working toward them”. –C. Phillips.

I was 22 years old and I had great dreams and a great vision for my future. In 1985 I was married to Jackie and a few months later I was in the Police Academy. Since I had been a small child I knew what “I wanted to be when I grew up”, a Police Officer and get married. I persevered through schooling and tests and finally I got the call the week I got back from my honeymoon, “Would you like to come to work as a State Trooper?” 1985 was a very good year. I set my career on the fast track and soon my vision became a little blurred and my priorities misguided. I was a workaholic. Work came first and family second. The challenges of balancing a career and family became overwhelming.

Poor choices brought an abrupt end to my dream when Jackie and I separated. She filed for divorce and I felt alone and isolated. My career was lack luster, nothing satisfied. I quit my job and melted into depression. I even contemplated suicide as a way out of my pain. When you hit bottom there is no place to go except up. I had been raised in a Christian home, attended church and even made a personal choice to let God come into my life when I was a teenager. But I never lived for Christ, only for myself.

One night in a damp basement where I rented a small room, I read my Bible. 1 John 1:9 said,” If I confess my wrongdoing, God is faithful and just to forgive Dave his sins and purify Dave from all unrighteousness”. I accepted Christ’s forgiveness. I forgave myself. I was reminded that God had a destiny, vision and a dream for me and my family. I asked for forgiveness from my creator and those that I had hurt. I shared the same message of hope with Jackie. After that we threw away those divorce papers and started living through Christ’s destiny and vision for us. My family was restored as well as my law enforcement career.

“It is a short walk from the Admiralty to Buckingham Palace. Yet I felt that I had been walking with destiny and that all my life had been preparation for this trial and this hour”. –Winston Churchill

All of my life experiences both positive and negative have brought me to where I am today. To serve Police Officers as Christ served the Church. To bring Peace to the Peacemakers.
